K-9 Handler and K-9 Officer Receive Awards

A K-9 Handler and his K-9 officer with a local law enforcement agency are being recognized for their efforts in fighting crime and service to the community.  Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Drew McAdams along with his companion, a German Shepard named Max, were presented with a pair of awards including the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Quad Award for 2022.  These awards are the result of McAdams’s and Max’s accomplishments last year.

In 2021, Deputy McAdams and K-9 Max made 42 Driving Under the Influence (DUI) arrests, 10 call out requests for open air vehicle sniffs resulting in 8 positive alerts, 3 pounds of Methamphetamine & 15 pounds of Marijuana seized with a street value of $89,900.00, 2 track call out deployments resulting in 2 apprehension of suspects.  Plus they spent many hours doing K-9 demonstrations in all Franklin County Elementary Schools.

McAdams and Max have been working together since 2018.  He says they’ve got each other’s back.

“I mean it’s a lot of hard work. A lot goes into it, a lot of training. I’ve got backup with me 24/7. He rides with me. I feel a whole lot safer knowing that I’ve got him in the back seat.”

Max just turned 11 on September 22.  McAdams says while many departments would have already retired a dog that age, Max has a lot of drive still left in him.  So McAdams says they’ll let Max “tell them” when he’s ready to call it quits.
