JUST IN: FRANKLIN CO STUDENT CAUGHT WITH UNLOADED GUN

WLHR News received this press release from Acting Franklin County School Superintendent Chuck Colquitt this morning:

“We are wanting to let everyone know about a situation this morning at FCMS. It was reported by our students to a 7th-grade teacher that a student was in possession of a gun,” Colquitt stated. “The administration and SRO responded immediately and confiscated the weapon from a book bag. There was no ammunition in the gun or on the student. Everyone is safe. We want to thank our students who quickly reported the weapon to their teacher. The school day is currently operating as normal. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. ”

Colquitt tells WLHR News no other information regarding the student involved or the incident will be released due to student privacy laws.

“I do want to say, however, how very proud I am of the student/s who reported it, the teacher who handled the situation as well as the administration at the Middle School. It took a tremendous amount of character on the part of the student who reported it and it showed their concern for the safety of their fellow students,” he said.
