Joint Memorial Service Planned for Charly and Kelli Schell

A joint memorial service is planned for Sunday in Hartwell for Charly and Kelli Schell who were killed in a plane crash in Wyoming last week.

Their joint memorial will be held on Sunday, July 24, at 2:00 p.m. at The Lonnie Burns Fine Arts Center at Hart County High School.

A reception will follow from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Cateechee Golf Club in Hartwell which was owned by the couple.

The Schells were on their way home to Hart County from Wyoming last Thursday when the plane Charly was piloting went off the radar.  Rescuers found the plane in the Big Horn National Forest the next day.  The NTSB continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

Charly and Kelli moved to Hartwell in 2001 where they became integral members of their community while raising their family.

After his military service, Charly Schell helped found Forge Consulting and most recently served as founder and chief executive officer of Armis Advisers and Bison Advisors.

In 2017, Charly and Kelli bought Cateechee Golf Club and Conference Center to preserve this wonderful asset for Hartwell and Hart County.

Hartwell Mayor Brandon Johnson said it was the Schells who saved Cateechee Golf and Country Club.

He said because of them, Cateechee is once again a profitable business and an asset to the region.

Kelli Schell served as President of Hartwell Service League, was a Hospice volunteer, and served as a board member for the Bell Family YMCA, the Hart County Chamber of Commerce, and the Joint Development Authority of Hart and Franklin County.

Together she and Charly founded Toughest Kids, Inc., a non-profit corporation dedicated to giving outdoor experiences to kids who might not otherwise get to learn about nature.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to https://www.toughestkids.com/

Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell is assisting the family with the arrangements.
