Job Search Workshops Today in Lavonia

Just a reminder about a series of workshops being offered today in Lavonia for those looking for work.

Sponsored by the Georgia Department of Labor Career Center in Toccoa, the work shop is taking place beginning at 11a at Lavonia First Baptist Church until 5p.

Representatives from the Department of Labor’s Toccoa Career Center will be in Lavonia to offer tips and strategies on how to land that next job as well as prepare for an upcoming job fair on the 27th on the Currahee Campus of North Georgia Technical College.

Toccoa Career Center Manager Greg Pitts said the all day seminar will offer a number of informative seminars.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for job seekers to prepare for the job fair event and get the most they can once they get to the job fair,” Pitts said. “There will be some valuable workshops available such as how to prepare a resume and how to do well in an interview that will help you once you get to the job fair.”

Other seminars include how to make the most of social media to promote your skills and experience, and even a workshop on how to develop your own 30-second commercial to market yourself to potential employers.

The job fair itself will take place Friday, September 27 from noon until 3p at the Currahee Campus of North Georgia Tech in Stephens County.

Pitts said even with the current high unemployment rate in our area, there are companies that are hiring.

“They absolutely are and there will be employers there who will have job openings they can discuss, others will be doing interviews there or scheduling interviews for a later date. It is an excellent opportunity for those who are unemployed or under employed to really make a connection and move forward in the work force,” Pitts said.

Again, today’s job workshop is free and takes place from 11a to 5p at Lavonia First Baptist church.
