Retired educator and coach Jason Oliver is stepping into the political ring.

Oliver qualified last week to run for the Franklin County Board of Education Post 1 seat.

In a press release, Oliver pointed to his long career working with the youth of Franklin County.

He is running against Incumbent Board member Gary Minyard.

Oliver taught civics and economics at Franklin County High School while also working as a coach for football, baseball, and softball.

He was also the School’s Athletic Director and Contracted Services Director.

All of that experience, Oliver said gives him the experience and expertise he believes is necessary to serve as a Franklin County Board of Education member.

Oliver currently serves on the Franklin County Fellowship of Christian Athletes Board as chairman and is a member of First Baptist Lavonia.

He and his father also run a cow/calf operation and are members of the Cattleman Association.

Both he and his wife of 36 years, Candace, are retired from the Franklin County School System.

They have four children. Three – Chris, Mackenzie, and Dee – are graduates of Franklin County High School.

He said his family has benefited greatly from this community and school system and because of that, he would love to be a part of planning for the County’s future generations.
