It will be a Candyland Christmas in Lavonia This Year

The City of Lavonia is preparing for a Candyland Christmas.

Sponsored by the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority, Director Barbara Busby said this year’s tree lighting downtown will be better than ever.

“We are kicking off the Christmas season on Tuesday, November 29 for our tree lighting. This year’s theme is Candyland. So,  the Gazebo will be decked out for a Candyland Christmas. We’ll have the tree lighting and music.  There will be a giant jumpy house that looks like Candyland. Different businesses and organizations will have free cookies and candy. The Lavonia Women’s Club will have roasted marshmallows, and of course, there will be Santa and Mrs. Clause to take pictures with the kids,” she said.

Then the first Sunday in December is the annual Christmas parade.

“Sunday, December 4 is our traditional Christmas parade that takes place 3p,” Busby noted. “We’ll start at City Hall and come around the downtown and at the Silo shopping center.”

Busby said the Candyland theme will carry over to the parade participants as well, and there will be prizes.  Additionally, local businesses are invited to compete in a storefront competition.

“Actually this year we will be giving out a trophy for the best-decorated float in the Candyland theme. We will also have a store-front decorating contest for any business inside the City limits of Lavonia. The way the judging will be done is the business will pick a local non-profit of their choice and collect donations. And the business that collects the most donations will win. We’ll have first, second, and third-place winners,” Busby explained.

Again, the Lavonia tree lighting is Tuesday, November 29 from 5p – 7p at the Gazebo downtown.

And the annual Christmas parade is Sunday, December 4 at 3p.
