Investigation Into Lake Russell Drowning Continues

In Elbert County, still no word on what caused a 29-year old woman to drown in Richard B. Russell Lake.

It happened in the early morning hours Tuesday.

According to Elbert County Coroner and EMA Director Charles Almond, a 911 call was received at approximately 12:39am Tuesday morning about an accident on the lake  near the Coldwater Creek boat ramp off of State Route 368.

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, Elbert County EMS, and a dive team arrived at the scene and pulled the woman’s body from the lake.

Almond said the body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Augusta for autopsy.

The victim’s name has not yet been released because an investigation by the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office continues.
