Investigation Continues Into Pedestrian Killed on Interstate

The Athens Post of the Georgia State Patrol tells WLHR News their investigation into the death of a man on I-85 in Jackson County is ongoing.

The man struck and killed by a vehicle on I-85 Tuesday afternoon and has now been Identified.

The Georgia State Patrol identified the victim as Aleksander Petrovich age 57 of Asheville, North Carolina.

Petrovich was actually driving a tractor trailer rig and had pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway near Dry Pond Road.

He had gotten out of the vehicle and stepped into the southbound lane where he was struck by a vehicle.

The incident occurred at around 2:20p Tuesday.

Witnesses say he was struck by a box truck that had a graphic of a picture frame with red and green artwork within the frame, and the words “food service” in the name.

The passenger side rear view mirror will also be missing.

The driver of the box truck was identified by witnesses as a white or Hispanic male approximately in his 40’s with a beard.

Thursday morning, a GSP Athens Post spokesperson said they are not releasing any more investigation at this time.
