Increase in the Georgia Mountains Labor Force in August

The Georgia Mountains saw an increase in the labor force from July to August.

“Although we are seeing fewer unemployed individuals now than before the pandemic started, we are also still seeing a decreased total number of people in the workforce when compared to numbers recorded prior to the pandemic,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “This will continue to cause a hiring crunch until we can attract more people back to the workforce to fill the record number of job openings.”

In Georgia Mountains, the unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a percent to 2.3 percent in August. A year ago, the rate was 4.5 percent.

The labor force increased in Georgia Mountains in August by 353 to 358,148. That number is up 19,716 over the year.

Georgia Mountains ended August with 349,862 employed residents. The number increased by 13 in August and was up 26,747 as compared to last year.

Initial claims for unemployment decreased 26 percent in August. When compared to last August, claims were down about 87 percent.
