Improvements Coming to Victoria Bryant State Park and Highland Walk

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says visitors will see some improvements this year at some of the more popular State Parks golf courses.

Both Victoria Bryant State Park and Highland Walk Golf Course in Franklin Springs are benefitting from several improvements.

Todd Gibson is Park Ranger at Victoria Bryant State Park.  Gibson says improvements are being all over the place.

Gibson says, “So currently we are in the process of renovating one of our bathrooms. We’re also updating some of our shelters and doing some major work and renovating our Bluebird and getting it painted this year and giving the cottage a fresh update.”

Gibson says the pool is also undergoing some repairs.  He says he expects all repairs throughout the park should be complete before Summer.  In the meantime, the park will remain open for visitors and campers.

And if you’re a golfer, you will also see several changes and improvements made at Highland Walk.  Bill Schuster is the manager at the 18-hole golf course, which is adjacent to Victoria Bryant State Park.

Schuster says there are several projects underway.  Schuster says, “The biggest project that’s going on right now is we are completely renovating the bunkers on the entire golf course. And when I say renovating I mean rebuilding them from start to finish. They took all the old sand out, redoing the drainage, and replacing them with brand new sand.”

Schuster says the cart paths have already seen improvements with some 35 to 40 potholes being repaired.  He says plans are also in the works to repair the tee boxes and improve the drainage system at Hole #17.  Schuster expects all work to be completed sometime in mid-May.  Highland Walk will remain open to the public during normal operating hours.
