Hundreds Gather to Pray For Our Nation Thursday

National Day of PrayerDozens gathered Thursday in Hartwell to pray for our nation on the National Day of Prayer.

Citizens joined with seven local pastors to pray for the country in seven different areas.   Pastor Johnny Stowe exhorted those present to make sure they were right with God before praying for the country’s government and leadership.

“We lift our President up to you, God to touch him spiritually first and  most of all,” he said. “The Vice President, the Cabinet members we pray for those as they make decisions, that they be led by Your Holy Spirit and that Your will be done in every decision they make.”

Saying they live in a world of darkness and danger, Military chaplain P. Michael McMurray prayed for the country’s military.

“I pray that you bless them and their families as each and every single day, they face life and death,” he said. “Father, I pray that you begin a great revival in our military and that you would give them a heart to endure and give them the hearts to love their families from a distance, Father.”

Other pastors prayed for the media, the economy, education, family and the Church.   The prayer service ended with the group singing God Bless America.

In 1952, Congress designated the first Thursday of May as a day for people across the country to turn to God in prayer and meditation.  Each year since then, the President has signed  a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.
