Hometown Heroes Happening Saturday in Carnesville

Franklin County continues the Veterans Day celebration this weekend with the first annual Hometown Heroes event in recognition of local veterans and public safety personnel.

The all-day event is coming up Saturday, from 9a to 6p in Carnesville.

County Manager Derrick Turner said the day will include a number of events beginning with a Dedication Ceremony for the Franklin County Veterans Memorial, Public Safety Memorial, and the unveiling of The Blue & Gold Star Memorial Markers.

Saturday’s events kick off with a dedication ceremony taking place from 9a to 10a at the Franklin County Courthouse in Carnesville.

Master of Ceremony is Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth Fowler and Special Guest Speaker is Kendra Lou Pieper. She is a Former Paratrooper @ 173rd Special Troops Battalion.

The Celebration portion Hometown Heroes day will take place on Hull Ave in Carnesville, which will be closed to traffic for the day.

The all-day celebration kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with the Dedication Ceremony for the Franklin County Veterans Memorial, Public Safety Memorial, & the unveiling of The Blue & Gold Star Memorial Markers at the courthouse. At 11:00, there will be a Parade of Veterans & Public Safety Personnel from all Franklin County Community with the Grand Marshall being Franklin County’s oldest veteran.

  • “Touch a Truck”
  • Mr. Twister the Clown

The Lavonia VFW Post 5897’s Fire in the Hole Pepper eating contest! The grand prize is $300 for eating peppers! This will be at the 1st Gazebo at the Sid and Augusta White Memorial Park. You can register 10-11 AM at the gazebo. To register prior to event waivers and registration forms are available on our website. It is $20.00 to register and they have limited spaces available. Pie in the Face for Commissioners & More. This will be at the 1st Gazebo at the Sid and Augusta White Memorial Park.
