Homer Pair Arrested After Chase Through Four Counties

Two Homer men are behind bars in Banks County, charged with selling meth from a Banks Crossing Motel.

According to Banks County Sheriff’s office spokesperson Sgt. Carissa McFaddin, the arrests came Tuesday after deputies and agents with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office began watching activities at the Howard Johnson Motel on Banks St. near I-85.

“ARDEO and Banks County Sheriff’s investigators had received a tip that one of the suspects, identified as 40-year old Perry Lamar Williams, was selling meth from room number 136 and that he was armed with a handgun,” she said.

According to McFaddin, agents confirmed Williams had outstanding warrants out of both Gwinnett and Jackson counties.   Later Tuesday, agents saw Williams and another person leave the room.

“Deputies stopped the vehicle the pair were in, but the driver sped off when deputies asked both Williams and the other suspect, identified as 45-year old Tressy Parker Shuman, for their ID’s,” McFaddin said.

Authorities chased the pair through Jackson, Gwinnett, Hall, and Barrow Counties.

“During that pursuit, Williams and Shuman swapped position and Williams became the driver of the vehicle,” McFaddin said. “And at that point, Williams hit four civilian cars, two law enforcement vehicles and rammed a Braselton Police unit from behind. As the chase continues, Williams was seen throwing out about 30 grams of meth with a street value of $3,300, which was later recovered.”

McFaddin said eventually, troopers with the Georgia State Patrol intercepted Williams using a PIT maneuver which ended the pursuit.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Hall County Sheriff’s Office and Gwinnett Police Department were also involved in the pursuit of Williams and Shuman, according to McFaddin.

Williams and Shuman were arrested charged with trafficking methamphetamine.  They were taken back to the Banks County Detention Center.  McFaddin said the investigation continues and more charges are expected.
