Home Heating, Water Help Begins November 1 for Seniors Over 65

Appointments for home heating and water assistance for seniors age 65 and older and the medically homebound will begin November 1.

The Georgia Department of Human Services through 9th District Opportunity in Gainesville is helping to pay heating and water costs for low-income homes with either gas, propane, or electric heating.

This year, one-time payments will be made by check issued to the home heating suppliers up to $500.00.

Eligibility for the program is based on the income of all household members.

When applying for assistance, applicants must bring with them certain documents.

Those include age verifications of everyone living in the home, verification of all household income received within the past 30 days, such as check stubs, everyone’s social security numbers in the home, a valid ID such as a driver’s license or State ID and a recent heating and water bill.

Ninth District representatives is no longer able to access that information for you. Appointments must be made ahead of time and no walk-ins will be allowed.

Applicants must wait until November 1 to call to make an appointment. Appointments will not be taken sooner.
