Hit and Run Investigation Continues in Toccoa

In Toccoa, authorities are still investigating a hit and run incident that happened last week on New Year’s Day.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said late Friday night, a vehicle crossed the center line on Currahee Street and hit another car.

The driver of the car that was hit was injured, but instead of stopping, the driver of the first car sped away.

Jarrell said officers later found the car they believe was the one that caused the accident abandoned on Fern Valley Drive.

The Chief added that at the same time, a homeowner in that area called authorities to report a man standing in their yard.

Toccoa Police and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office searched the Fern Valley neighborhood using tracking dogs from Habersham County and the Lee Arrendale Correctional Facility, but they did not find the suspect.
