High-Speed Motorcycle Chase Lands Tennessee Man in Jail

A Knoxville, Tenn., man is behind bars in Habersham County after a high-speed motorcycle chase Tuesday that began in Franklin County.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas, deputies clocked 19-year old Alikhan Ryaz Kherani going 120mph on his motorcycle down I-85 Tuesday afternoon.   Thomas said his officers tried to pull Kherani over, but he just kept going.

“The Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a motorcycle operator on I-85 who had reached speeds of more than 100mph,” Thomas said. “Operator refused to stop and attempted to lead deputies on a high-speed chase.”

The chase continued to Exit 164 where Kherani sped off the Interstate onto SR106 and into Stephens County.

At that point the Georgia State Patrol took over and chased Kherani to the SR17 Toccoa Bypass, up the Bypass and into Habersham County.   Once in Habersham, troopers say Kherani then turned onto SR15 towards Tallulah Falls and then into Hollywood.

He was finally pulled over by troopers on SR365 and arrested.

Kherani is now facing multiple charges in Habersham County including felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, failure to signal lane change or turn, possession of drug-related objects, driving under the influence, reckless driving, following too closely, use of equipment prohibited by law, driving on wrong side of undivided street, and unsafe operation of a motorcycle.

Thomas says Kherani also faces multiple charges in Franklin County.

“The charges in Franklin County are speeding, DUI, reckless driving, failure to signal lane change, improper passing and unlawful operating a motorcylcle,” said Thomas.

It’s not known if Kherani faces any charges in Stephens County.

Kherani remains in the Habersham County Detention Center with a hold on him for Franklin County.
