A high speed chase last Friday through Banks County led to the arrest of an Atlanta man.

It happened about 11:30p Friday night, according to Banks County Sheriff’s Spokesperson Sgt Carissa McFaddin.

McFaddin said Banks County deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on I-85 South near exit 149 when they observed a black Nissan Altima weaving within the lane of traffic.

“When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, Buice exited I-85 on exit 149 then suddenly returned to the interstate and stopped on the shoulder of the road,” McFaddin said. “As deputies approached the vehicle, Buice abruptly accelerated and left the scene of the traffic stop and sped down I-85.”

Deputies were able to obtain a safe location at mile marker 133.5 where they conducted a pursuit intervention technique that caused the suspect’s vehicle to leave the interstate and come to a stop on the shoulder of the road.

Arrested was 27-year old Demarcus D. Buice, of Atlanta.

“Buice did not sustain any injuries,” she said. “Buice was arrested and transported to Banks County Law Enforcement Center. Buice currently has an outstanding probation violation warrant out of Dekalb County.”

In Banks County, Buice is charged with weaving over roadway, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, seatbelt violation, obstruction of officers, and giving false information.
