Hiding in Plain Sight..New Hartwell Mural Offers Visitors Fun Search

A new mural is about to be completed in downtown Hartwell that carries some hidden treasures to find.

The mural on the side of a building on Forest Avenue at the intersection of Franklin Street in Hartwell should be completed sometime this week.

Hartwell Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Henley Cleary said the artist is Lorie Sholtus of Douglasville.

She said the mural will depict different historic buildings and businesses throughout the community.  Cleary tells us that the mural in part was paid for in a very interesting way.

“Part of the way we paid for it is that you can purchase and opportunity to have your name or someone’s else name hidden within the mural,” Cleary explained. “We’ve had a lot of people participate in that. So we will have a plaque with the name of who made the donation and the name that was hidden. It will be a fun way to come down and try to find your name.”

Cleary says having one’s name in the mural is a nice way to be a part of the history of Hartwell.

Again, the mural is on the side of the building at the corner of Forest Avenue and Franklin Street if you would like to go by and take a look.
