Help Sought to Find Puppies Stolen from Animal Shelter

Authorities in Lavonia are asking for the public’s help to find four puppies that were stolen from the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter.

It happened sometime overnight Tuesday.

Shelter Director Sheri Lockhart said shelter workers discovered the puppies missing when they arrived to work Wednesday morning.

“We came into work this morning and found two of our puppies standing on the sidewalk outside where they shouldn’t have been. They should have been inside our adoption center. We went inside and discovered we had four puppies missing from our adoption building,” Lockhart said Wednesday.

All four puppies were eight weeks old.

The Beagle puppies are described as smaller Beagles, black, tan and white.

Lockhart said whoever has them may try to sell them locally or on social media.

She said two of the puppies were about to be adopted when they were taken.

“I want people to know if you see someone trying to sell the Beagle puppies or the Bulldog puppy on Facebook or on Craigslist or in a parking lot or somewhere, please let us know or call Lavonia PD immediately. We want to get those puppies back. Two of the puppies were already adopted and waiting to go to their new home. They were just finishing out their adoption period,” Lockhart said.

Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle said at first, it was thought someone who had been at the shelter Tuesday with a complaint might have come back Tuesday night and taken the dogs, but investigators he said cleared that person.

Police are asking for the public to be on the lookout for anyone trying to sell the dogs.

“If anybody has any knowledge of the theft of these puppies, to let us know immediately,” Carlisle said. “If anyone does have any contact with the person trying to sell these puppies I would advise them not to buy them, because they could be charged with receiving stolen property. My advice is to call us.”

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of these puppies is asked to contact Lavonia Police at 706-356-4848 or your local 911.

You do not have to give your name.
