A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 pm this evening. A winter storm warning will go into effect this evening from 6 pm to 6 pm Thursday for all of Northeast Georgia and the Upstate.

Forecasters are calling for about an inch of snowfall today, but not expecting it to stick to the roads with temperatures expected to be in the upper 30’s. However, the big winter weather maker is expected to begin overnight tonight and last through tomorrow.

“It looks like we’re going to see some light snow today through the evening hours, said meteorologist Harry Geripetritus with the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg. “The really heavy snow is moving in overnight tonight and it looks like for your area we are calling for six to eight inches of snow.”

Geripetritus said that could mix with sleet at times, but he said most of the weather event in our area will be snow and not much ice.  By Thursday afternoon, however, conditions should begin to improve.

“Yes, we should probably see that last round of departing snow showers probably by Thursday morning,” Geripetritus said. “Then by Thursday afternoon we should see sunshine and temperatures in the low to mid 40’s, which should help with a little bit of melting.”
