HCHS Senior Receives First Nicki Meyer Scholarship from Hart County Chamber

The Hart County Chamber has awarded its first Nicki Meyer Scholarship to a deserving Hart County High School Senior.

This week the Chamber announced it has awarded the $1,000 scholarship to Senior John Gordy.

Chamber Executive Director Christine Blomberg said the scholarship was created to honor the memory and legacy of former Chamber Executive Director Nicki Meyer.

Blomberg said Gordy exemplifies Meyer’s passion for the Hart County community through volunteering and serving in many areas of our community.

He has been accepted to Georgia Tech and plans to attend in the fall.

Nicki Meyer served as the director of the Hart County Chamber of Commerce from 2012-2017 and was passionate about working to boost economic development and tourism in Hartwell and Hart County.

Meyer is probably remembered best for her work to redevelop the long-abandoned Railroad St. just below Depot St.

To that end, she formed the non-profit group TORCH, which continues to work on redeveloping the street as an adjunct to Depot St.

Other organziations Meyer was involved in included the Hartwell DDA, Hartwell Service League, Have a Hope Christian Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, Hartwell Helps, and many more.
