Hartwell to Host “Art on the Town” This Weekend

Hartwell Main Street is hosting a new event this weekend called, “Art on the Town.”

It’s a two-day celebration of the Arts in Hartwell.

The event will showcase an array of arts throughout downtown Hartwell including exhibits featuring some of the area’s noted artists, Pamela Renfroe and Jewel Hutcherson, as well as activities and demonstrations for all ages to enjoy.

Dixie Northrup, chair of this year’s Art on the Town tells WLHR News that it’s rare to find a small town with such a thriving arts community.

The event kicks off this Friday, with an opening reception at the Art Center from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and features paintings from renowned local artists Pamela C. Renfroe and the late Jewel Queste Hutcherson.

And because Hartwell has such an abundance of visual art offerings, the Depot at Railroad Street Park is also being used to exhibit pieces from a private collection of County attorney Walter Gordon.

His collection includes pieces from several local artists as well as pieces collected from around the world.

The exhibit at the Depot is open on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Saturday will also be filled with art demonstrations and music.

Beginning at 10:00 AM on the patio in front of The Farmer’s Daughter, Chad Whitworth from Nevermore Studios will be giving a demonstration of Raku pottery-making.

In the afternoon, the platform at the Depot will be the setting for dance demonstrations.

In addition to the exhibits and artist demonstrations and performances, there are additional opportunities to enjoy throughout downtown Hartwell.

Hartwell Main Street’s public piano will be placed around town throughout the event. On Friday evening it will be on the square, and on Saturday it will be located on the patio in front of Common Ground.

And along Constitution Alley, visitors can see art created by local Hart County schoolchildren.

In case of rain, the Youth Art will be displayed inside of Southern Hart Brewing Company.
