HARTWELL POST TROOPERS CAPTURE SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RESCUE TWO CHILDREN

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post are credited with capturing a suspected kidnapper from Atlanta and rescuing two small children.

It happened Tuesday on I-85 near mile marker 172 in Franklin County.

“At about 1:40p Tuesday afternoon troopers conducted a traffic stop on I-85 Northbound on a vehicle matching the description in a BOLO issued out of Atlanta by Atlanta Police,” said
Trooper Sgt. Ray Dean with GSP Hartwell Post 52. “Troopers on the scene immediately detained the driver and recovered the children, a two-year-old little girl and a four-year-old little boy, who were in the backseat of the vehicle.”

Dean said both children were taken to the Franklin County Sheriff’s office where they were reunited with their mother.

The suspect and driver of the vehicle is identified as 25-year-old Dontrell Obrian Johnson of Union City, Georgia. A hold was placed on Johnson for the Atlanta Police.

Dean said the Atlanta Police are handling all associated kidnapping charges.
