Hartwell Police Chief Cecil Reno to Retire

Cecil RenoAfter almost 38 years in law enforcement with the City of Hartwell,  Hartwell Police Chief Cecil Reno is retiring.

Reno will leave his post at the end of the year.  When contacted, Reno declined to comment on his retirement.  Reno’s retirement was announced at the Hartwell City Council Meeting Monday night.

“Cecil is retiring at the end of the year,” said Hartwell City Manager David Aldrich. “We will now begin advertising and looking for a new police chief.”

Aldrich said since Reno is not leaving until the end of the calendar year, the city will likely not appoint an interim police chief.

“I don’t think we’ll do an interim chief because we might have one in place by the end of the year,” Aldrich said. “If not, we will make the decision closer to his retirement whether we want to appoint an interim chief or continue as we are. We do have enough talent in the house that I think that we can continue on.”

Reno started his career in law enforcement in Hartwell in 1976, working his way up the ranks from patrolman to sergeant in two years.   In 1978, the Hartwell City Council and Mayor appointed Reno police chief and he has held that job ever since.
