Hart County Humane Society to Hold Parade and Open House for Dr. Mauldin’s Birthday

The Hart County Humane Society is inviting the public to come out this Saturday, March 27, to help retired veterinarian Dr. Mauldin celebrate his birthday.

Humane Society president Donna Madkiff the day will start off with a parade in his honor.

“We’re going to have a drive-by parade. We’re going to line up in the parking of Bellcraft and drive by the Sheriff’s Department. Dr. Mauldin will be under a tent on Reed Creek Highway decorated for his birthday. We’re asking people to decorate their vehicles and come out and blow their horns and wish him a happy birthday,” she said.

The Humane Society’s offices and sanctuary on Reed Creek Highway in Hartwell was formerly Dr. Mauldin’s animal hospital.

When he retired, he donated the building and kennel space to the Hart County Humane Society.

Madkiff said the Humane Society wants to honor Mauldin for all of his help and support over the years.

“He’s our mentor. He donated his building. He did this way before we started the Humane Society; he was rescuing animals on his own,” she explains. “He still volunteers. So, since we’ve started and he’s been our support there’s been over 5,000 animals rescued from Hart and Franklin counties. We just want to honor him and wish him a happy birthday, and show off our renovations. We just love him.”

Over the years with the help of donations, the Humane Society has been able to expand and renovate the sanctuary.

In addition to the birthday parade, Madkiff said there will also be an open house Saturday at their sanctuary on Reed Creek Highway for the public to visit and meet some of the dogs and cats they have available for adoption.
