Hart County Habitat Uses Grant from Lowe’s Home Improvement to Help Local Family

Hart County’s Habitat for Humanity is receiving a grant from Lowe’s to help towards their next build.

Lowe’s Home Improvement is the national Habitat for Humanity sponsor of Women Build.

Last year, Habitat and Lowe’s sponsored the first International Women Build Week helping build homes for dozens of families around the world.  Hart County Habitat will celebrate Women Build Day on March 7.

Habitat Executive Director Darlene Nixon tells WLHR News this year, they plan to use the Lowe’s grant by partnering with a local church to help a family in immediate need.

“We actually heard about a family in Hart County that is in dire need of just basic shelter,” she explained. “And Mt. Olivet Baptist Church is spearheading an effort to help them. And we decided what a wonderful partnership to help them do that. So, we are partnering with Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and their members and our volunteers and we’re going to put together a shelter house that will help this family.”

In Hart County, Women’s Build Day is Saturday, March 7 and Nixon said they will kick off that day with a special fashion show the day before.

“We decided to combine our fashion show similar to what we did last year. This time we want to bring in those churches since we’re partnering with a church and call it the Faith Fashion Show. And those proceeds will go towards our current family that is waiting for their new house to be built,” Nixon said.

The next build Nixon said will go to a single mother who is disabled.

Since 1991, Women Build volunteers from all walks of life have come together to build stronger, safer communities.

Habitat’s Women Build events provide the opportunity for women to take a proactive step in serving their communities.

No experience is necessary and volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, and also alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners.
