Hart County BOC to Hold First Meeting of New Year Tonight

Hart County’s Board of Commissioners has a full line up when they meet for their first meeting of the new year tonight.

In addition to electing a new board chair and vice-chair, the Board is also expected to make the 2016 board appointments.

Also on tonight’s agenda, the board is expected to take up the issue of the STELAR Act and like Franklin County, is expected to discuss working with other counties to get Hart County off the orphan county list so satellite TV customers can receive Atlanta TV stations.

Last week, Franklin County Manager Beth Thomas said the FCC requires orphan counties submit a formal request along with the approval of the Satellite TV provider to add or delete channels.

Thomas said she is working with Hart and other orphan counties in Northeast Georgia to develop a plan.

Under new business this evening, the Board is expected to set the qualifying fees for the upcoming 2016 elections.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 5:30p at the Hart County Commission office in Hartwell.
