Hart Co High School to Host Veterans Day Ceremony

It’s Veterans Day and there are a number of events going on around the area in recognition of our veterans.

In Hartwell, a special ceremony takes place this morning at 10a at the Hart County High School Fine Arts Center.

Lieutenant Colonel, Chris Carter, U.S. Army (Ret) is the Senior Army Instructor for the Hart County High School Junior Army ROTC.

Carter says everyone is welcome to this morning’s ceremony.

This year’s program honors veterans of all eras, and includes the service song medley, a patriotic video and musical selection and a tribute to hart county’s honored dead.

Additionally, this morning’s ceremony will include a special presentation on behalf of the Daughters Of The American Revolution by Mrs. Mary Ann Huggins, Regent Of The John Benson Chapter.

Again, the ceremony takes place at 10a this morning at the Hart County High School Fine Arts Center and is open to the public.

And on this Veterans Day, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is waiving Day use fees on recreation areas today at the Thurmond and Hartwell lakes for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families.

The fee waiver requires only verbal confirmation of service.

The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swimming beaches, but does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters.

Recreation areas at the Richard B. Russell Dam and Lake are not Corps-managed.

The Veterans Day fee waiver began in 2006 as a way to honor the men and women who have served America and the armed forces, said James R. Hannon, USACE chief of operations in Washington, D.C.
