Hart Chamber to Sponsor Political Forum

A political forum is scheduled in Hart County for later this month in Board of Commissioners District Two race.

Sponsored by the Hart County Chamber of Commerce, the political forum takes place February 27th in the Adult Learning Center of the Hart County Public Library beginning at 6p.

Five candidates are vying for the seat left vacant when Commissioner Dan Reyen passed away suddenly last November.  They include Jerry Canady, James Faulkner, Gary Hamilton, Frankie Teasley and Charles Walters.

Each of the five candidates will have an opportunity to outline their platform.  The audience will then be allowed to ask them questions.

Retired businessman Jerry Canady was the first to come forward in early December to announce his intention to run.  Canady said at the time if he’s elected, he would focus on creating more openness and accountability in county government.

Faulkner, meantime, is a retired industrial engineer.   He recently told the Hartwell Sun he would work to bring more jobs into the county and his experience is exactly what the county needs.

Dr. Gary Hamilton is president of the Hart County Property Owners’ Association.  Hamilton said in addition to working to bring more jobs into the county, he would also work to see the creation of a county animal shelter.

Walters, a retired business owner, was also one of the first to help form the Hart County Fire Department.  He said last week he is running to give citizens fair and honest government and a balanced budget.

Whoever wins the special election on March 18 will serve the remainder of Reyen’s unexpired term, which runs through December 31st. However, they must again qualify and run to fill the next four-year term which begins January 1, 2015.
