Hart BOC to Hear 1st Reading of Rendering Plant Ordinance This Evening

At their regular meeting this evening, the Hart County Commissioners will go over the second draft of an amendment to the County ordinance regarding rendering plants.

In June Hart County Commissioner motioned for a 120-day moratorium on any building permits for a rendering plant after watching the issues Franklin County had with Pilgrim’s Pride when they applied to build a rendering plant off I-85 in Carnesville.

At that time, Dorsey pointed out that Hart County has no zoning regulations which he said is why there needs to be some kind of directive for rendering plants going forward.

After some adjustments, the Board will hear the first reading tonight of an addition to Chapter 22 of the County’s Code of Ordinances.

The Board will also be discussing the need for updating two other sections of the County Ordinance -Chapters 46 and 50, which deal with land development standards and mobile homes and trailers.

In other business, Commissioners will also be discussing building codes and the need for a building inspector.

Tonight’s meeting takes place at 6p at the County Commission office on Reed Creek Highway in Hartwell.

In other business, Commissioners and County staff have begun working on their FY2022 budget.

Hart County’s fiscal year begins on October 1.

After the regular meeting, Hart County Commissioners will begin their hearings from County departments and organizations they fund and their needs for and requests for the fiscal year 2022.

Tonight the Board will hear from the Board of Elections, the District Attorney, the Magistrate Judge, the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter, the Library Administration, and the Franklin-Hart County Airport Authority.

Other issues will be discussed as time allows.
