Hart BOC Thanks Citizen Volunteers for Help with Courthouse Grounds

Hart County Commissioners are thanking local civic groups and volunteers for helping keep their courthouse grounds well manicured.

At their meeting last week, County Commission Chair Marshal Sayer thanked several groups for their hard work and fielded complaints from citizens about the grounds being overgrown.

Sayer said like everyone else, they’ve had trouble getting help.

“I so appreciate the Kiwanis Club, the Hartwell DDA and Main Street for going down to our courthouse and helping out with some landscape chores that needed to be done. It’s not that we don’t care. We have reached out to contractors to do professional landscaping service for that area but they’re in the same situation as the rest of the world. They don’t want to on take new contracts because they can’t get the help to expand their businesses. So it’s put us in a dilemma,” he said.

Other commissioners echoed Sayer’s comments.

Commissioner Joey Dorsey called one email he received from a citizen who complained about the courthouse grounds. Dorsey quoted the email in which the citizen said the County obviously doesn’t care what the courthouse grounds look like. Dorsey said that was not true and called the email a “cheap shot.”

Sayer said County Administrator Terrell Partain has done a great job of finding people to do the grounds maintenance on a job-by-job basis and added they are still looking for a regular landscaping service.

“I just want everyone to know it’s not that we don’t care. We’ve just had trouble finding someone to contract with us but we’ll keep working on it. We’ve also lost our detention inmates. That’s put a hindrance on it too but we’ll keep trying,” he said.
