Hart BOC holds second reading on moving meeting times to 6 p.m.

The Hart County Board of Commissioners is one reading away from moving their regular meeting times by a half-hour. At Tuesday night’s meeting, commissioners held a second reading of the ordinance.

Commission Chairman Joey Dorsey gives the details.

Item 12B, amendment to Section 2-26: Regular Meetings. This is basically changing the time of our regular meetings from 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday to 6 p.m. Could I get a motion to accept this as a second reading?” asked Dorsey.

The motion was made by Commissioner RC Oglesby and seconded by Commissioner Ricky Carter.

At that time County Attorney Walter Gordon then asked for a clarification.

You have one more reading before you can adopt it and the way I’ve got it written down as blank, and that you’re possibly having another meeting in December, but it would not, whatever it is, would not be a regular meeting. It would have to be a called meeting. We originally thought that this ordinance would take effect on Jan. 1. My real question is, when would you like it to become effective? Would you like it to be effective as of Feb. 1?” asked Gordon.

Dorsey said he would prefer it to begin with the second meeting in January.

The final reading is expected to be held at the Jan. 8 meeting.
