A Hall County man faces charges in Toccoa after an incident last week.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said it started when a man and woman brought a woman to the police department late last Tuesday afternoon.

“They informed our officers that they witnessed her (the woman) being the victim of an assault while she was in a vehicle with a male subject,” said Jarrell. “They reported to us that she jumped from the vehicle when it slowed for the railroad tracks at the intersection of Elberton and Broad streets. We attempted to find the vehicle and to make contact with the driver of the vehicle, but were unsuccessful in doing so.”

Jarrell said that police then put out a lookout for the vehicle in question.

“It was found in the Holcomb (Access) landing area of Stephens County abandoned and then much later in the evening, officers with the Toccoa Police Department found Eric Dwight Rider walking on the street inside the city,” said Jarrell.

Authorities arrested Rider, identified as a 25-year-old Murrayville resident, and charged him with battery and kidnapping.

Jarrell said the woman who was brought into the police department is okay.
