A Mt. Airy woman, charged with the murder of a Toccoa man, remains in custody.

According the Habersham County Sheriff’s office, it happened Saturday, January 18, in Habersham County.

Habersham County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Wurtz said 31-year old Kayla Maria Parker, of Mt. Airy, is charged with murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and two counts of cruelty to children in the death of Joshua Matthew Canady, 37, of Toccoa.

Wurtz said on Saturday, Habersham County 911 Dispatch received an emergency call regarding a possible stabbing at 376 Ben Loudermilk Road, Mt. Airy.

Deputies responded and located the male victim on the floor of the home, and administered CPR until Habersham County Emergency Services personnel arrived.

Parker and two juveniles were also located in the home.

Wurtz says that all efforts to resuscitate Canady were unsuccessful and Canady was pronounced dead at the scene.

Warrants on Parker were obtained late Sunday afternoon, and she was taken into custody.

Parker currently is being held at the Habersham County Detention Center.

Investigators have not said what led to the stabbing, and the case is still under investigation.
