Georgians Going to the Polls on Super Tuesday

vote7It is Super Tuesday and voters are going to the polls today in Georgia and 10 other states to choose their candidates for the upcoming Presidential Election.

Republicans will vote in 11 states, with 595 delegates at stake.

Democrats will vote in 11 states and American Samoa, with 865 delegates up for grabs.

In Franklin County, voters will also be deciding on whether to continue the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax or e-SPLOST for another five years.

Early voting ended Friday statewide.

In Franklin County, Elections Supervisor Gina Chappalear says 850 of the County’s 12,000 registered voters turned out to cast an early ballot with over 200 voting at the Elections and Registrations office Friday alone.

Addtionally, 116 absentee ballots came in by mail.

“Looking back at the numbers from 2012, it was a considerable amount more. I would say that is pretty good for us,” said Chappalear.

Now today, voters will be going to their regular precinct to vote and in Franklin County, this is just the second election in which some voters will go their new polling place.

Last summer, the Franklin County Elections and Registrations Board consolidated precincts from 13 to seven.

Chappalear says she has had numerous calls from citizens Monday asking where their new precinct is.

Here is where you go to vote in Franklin County:

  • Lavonia, Canon, Royston precinct locations stayed the same.
  • Red Hill voters now go to the Carnesville Fire Department
  • Flinstville, Strange, and part of Ashland voters will now go to the Double Churches Fire Department, which is now the West Franklin precinct.
  • Line Community and Gumlog voters now go to Gumlog BBQ to vote, which is now called the Northeast Franklin precinct.
  • Gunnells, Ashland, Middle River, and Dooley voters now go to the Sandy Cross Fire Department, which is now called the Southwest Franklin precinct.

Polls opened at 7a and will close tonight at 7p.
