Georgia Unemployment Rate Unchanged in March

Georgia’s March unemployment rate was 3.1, unchanged from a revised 3.1 percent in February.

However, the State’s unemployment rate was still seven-tenths pf a percent lower than the national unemployment rate.

In March, initial unemployment claims were down 22% last month and down over 19% for the year.

That also meant the number of unemployed was down 163,483 statewide.

That’s the lowest figure since July 2022.

State Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Georgia excels at being recognized as an economic powerhouse, which means consistency, the ability to adapt, and strong local investments.

In March, jobs were up by 16,200 and by 55,400 (1.1%) over the year to 4.9 million – an all-time high.

The sectors with the most over-the-month job gains included Administrative and Support Services, Health Care and Social Assistance; Accommodation and Food Services; Local Government; and Specialty Trade Contractors.

Jobs were down last month in Information, which includes Motion Picture and Sound Recording Industries, Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation, and Wholesale Trade.

And the State’s labor force also reached an all-time high of just over 5.3 million.
