Georgia Mountains Unemployment Rate Drops Again in September

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that all Regional Commissions recorded a drop in unemployment rates in September.

In the Georgia Mountains region, which includes Franklin, Hart, and Stephens counties, the preliminary unemployment rate in September dropped to 2.2% – down five-tenths of a percent from August.

While Initial claims for unemployment were up 1% over the month, the labor force increased 1,265 to 238,458.

Additionally, the number of employed workers was up 2,418 o-t-m to 233,224 and there were 3,752 jobs posted on Employ Georgia in the Georgia Mountains Region.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Georgia continues to see a steady rise in job creation and demand by employers to fill open positions.

The strong growth, he said, has led to Georgia having the fewest unemployed residents in over 20 years.
