Georgia DOT Restricting Lane Closures Over July 4th Holiday

The Georgia Department of Transportation is restricting construction-related lane closures beginning at noon Thursday, July 3 and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday, July 7 so Georgian’s can better enjoy the long holiday weekend.

“We anticipate heavy traffic over the Independence holiday,” explained Bayne Smith,  District Engineer. “To lessen the impact on traffic, the Georgia Department of Transportation has restricted construction lane closures on interstates and major state routes.”

The Department reminds travelers to exercise caution nonetheless as heavy holiday traffic is expected throughout the state; crews may be still be working in close proximity to highways; and safety concerns may require some long-term lane closures remain in place.  Also, incident management or emergency, maintenance-related lane closures could become necessary at any time on any route.
