GDOT Plans Open House on SR63 Bridge Rebuild in Homer

The Georgia DOT is holding a public information open house detour meeting this week in Banks County to discuss the proposed detour necessary for reconstruction of the State Route 63 bridge over the Middle Fork of the Broad River outside of Homer.

The open house is scheduled for Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Banks County Courthouse Annex located at 150 Hudson Street in Homer.

Georgia DOT engineers will be available to discuss the proposed project and detour details.   There will be no formal presentation.

The existing bridge was built in 1962 and does not meet current design standards.  The bridge is 304 feet long, 29 feet wide and does not have shoulders.  The new bridge will be 250 feet long and 40 feet wide featuring 12-foot wide lanes and 8-foot wide shoulders.

During the open house meeting, engineers will have maps showing the necessary detour for motorists while construction of the new bridge is going on.

Again, the open house is scheduled for Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Banks County Courthouse Annex located at 150 Hudson Street in Homer.
