GDOT Open House on Homer Bridge Repair Rescheduled for March

In Banks County, an open house scheduled for last week in Homer to discuss plans for a new bridge and the resulting detour has been rescheduled.

The  original meeting had been set for last Thursday but was cancelled due to the snow and ice storm last week.

Representatives will be on hand at the open house to discuss the detour necessary for reconstruction of the State Route 63 Bridge over the Middle Fork of the Broad River northeast of Homer.

The open house is now planned for Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Banks County Courthouse Annex located at 150 Hudson Street in Homer.

DOT District Engineer Bayne Smith tells WLHR News the goal for an open house meeting is to share information with the Community.

Georgia DOT engineers will be available to discuss the proposed project and detour details.  There will be no formal presentation.

The existing bridge was built in 1962 and does not meet current design standards.  The bridge is 304 feet long, 29 feet wide and does not have shoulders.  The new bridge will be 250 feet long and 40 feet wide featuring 12-foot wide lanes and 8-foot wide shoulders.

During the open house meeting, engineers will have maps showing the necessary detour for motorists while construction of the new bridge is going on.
