GDOT Closing Road in SR17 Widening

If you’re headed into Toccoa today on SR17 be prepared for lane shifts and more detours as work to widen 17 from the Franklin County line to Memorial Drive in Toccoa continues in earnest.

Stephens County officials say part of Scott Road off 17 will be closed beginning today due the road work.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said she was notified last month by C.W. Matthews, contractors for the widening project and by the Georgia DOT.

Ayers said the county was not given a time frame for how long the closure would be in effect.

The original completion date to turn 17 into a four-lane was the end of May, but now GDOT is saying it will likely not be done until at least the end of summer.

Motorists going into Toccoa should also watch for sudden lane shifts from Scott Road to the 17Bypass where the bulk of the new work is taking place.
