GDOT Closes SR82 Bridge in Jackson/Barrow County

If you frequent the Jackson/Barrow county area along SR 82 or know someone who does, you need to be prepared for a major detour.

Georgia Department of Transportation and construction partner Georgia Bridge and Concrete, LLC has closed SR 82 to replace the bridge.

The project replaces the existing SR 82 bridge over the Middle Oconee River.

A new bridge will be constructed on the existing alignment with the implementation of an offsite detour.

The proposed roadway typical section will be two 12-foot lanes with 10-foot (6.5-ft paved) outside shoulders. The proposed bridge will have two 12-foot lanes and 8-foot shoulders.

The SR 82 bridge that runs through Jackson and Barrow counties is expected to be closed for approximately 7 months.

The proposed detour route requires motorists on SR 82 to drive approximately 7.8 miles to travel from the intersection of SR 330 to the intersection of SR 15.

Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
