GBI Investigating Hart County Shooting Death

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have been called in to assist in a shooting Sunday in Hart County that left a man dead.

It happened late Sunday afternoon at a home on Kelly Road, near North Hart Elementary School, according to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland.

“We got the call around 5:30p and the shooting had taken place outside the home on the porch area,” Cleveland said. “Mr. Partain was deceased. EMS had responded and he did have a gunshot wound in the front of his body and that’s all we can say about that right now.”

Cleveland said the victim is identified as Jeffrey Partain, age unknown. Partain is believed to be from the metro Atlanta area and was in the home with his girlfriend.

Cleveland said Partain’s body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.

According to the Sheriff, it is not clear exactly how the shooting happened nor if drugs were involved.

“We all have our own theories about what happened, but we can’t talk about theories we have to let the GBI go ahead and work through it,” he said. “With that said, the Crime Lab will have a lot to say about what happened. We are saying there a lot of unanswered questions.”

Cleveland said Partain’s girlfriend has been questioned by the GBI and Sheriff’s investigators, but has not been charged with any crime.

Her name has not been released.
