GBI Continues Investigation of Sunday Double Shooting in Toccoa

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continue to assist Toccoa Police in the investigation of a shooting that occurred early Easter Morning on West Whitman Street.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, Toccoa Police Officers responded shortly past midnight on Sunday, March 31 to reports of shots fired at an address on West Whitman Street across from Emory Johnson Park.

Mize said two individuals were transported by Stephens County EMS, one with a gunshot wound to the chest and one with a gunshot wound to the stomach.  Their names have not yet been released.

Following standard protocol, Mize contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist with the investigation, and GBI investigators arrived on the scene in the early morning hours of Sunday, taking the lead in the case.

Nelly Miles, GBI Director of Public Affairs, said that as of Monday, there were no updates on the case other than to confirm that two individuals were shot, and taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

She said the case is “active and ongoing.”
