Funeral Services Set for Monday for Slain Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum has released the funeral arrangements for Deputy Lena Nicole Marshal who was shot last Friday night while answering a domestic dispute call.

Mangum said the funeral for officer Marshall will be held Monday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. at Free Chapel Church in Braselton.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will lead the processional starting at the Sheriff’s Office at noon. The processional will proceed through Jefferson en route to Free Chapel.

Lena Marshall’s body will be carried by horse-drawn carriage from Memorial Park Funeral Home to Free Chapel, thanks to the North Carolina Caisson Unit.

Memorial Park Funeral Home in Braselton is in charge of the arrangements.

Deputy Marshal was shot and critically injured Friday night after answering a call regarding a domestic situation at a home in Hoschton, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles.

When Marshal and her partner arrived at that location, they made contact with a woman at the front door of the residence, identified as 43-year old Jessica Worsham. Worsham pulled out a firearm and pointed it towards the deputies.

When deputies told her to drop the weapon she opened fire hitting Deputy Marshal. The other deputy returned fire, hitting Worsham and killing her.

Marshal was taken to a local trauma center where she passed away Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Mangum said officer Marshal had over 10 years experience in law enforcement, working not only for the Jackson County Sheriff’s office but also for the Barrow County Sheriff’s office and Winder Police.

The Deputy Lena Nicole Marshall benefit fund has been set up at the Northeast Georgia Bank, 1775 Old Pendergrass Road, Jefferson, Georgia.

However, Sheriff Mangum said donations can be made at any Northeast Georgia Bank branch.
