Free Job Readiness Seminar Coming to Hartwell Next Week

The Georgia Department of Labor is once again offering those looking for work in our area a chance to find out how best to market their skills and talents.

Next week, the Department of Labor is offering a Job Readiness seminar on Wednesday January 22nd at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Hartwell.  Department of Labor spokesperson Danette Smith said it’s a day of job seeker training classes.

“We have six training classes that will be going on from 10a to 4p,” Smith said. “There’s no charge for any of them and they all have to do with preparing for the job expo in February.”

Some of the workshops include “Marketing Yourself Using Social Media,” “Interviewing Skills,” “Effective Job Search,” “Creating a Value-Based Résumé,” and “How to Succeed at a Career Expo.”

Those attending the Job Readiness Kickoff will receive a ticket for early admission to an upcoming career expo at the Catechee Golf Club and the first chance to meet with potential employers before the doors open to the general public.

Last year a similar job readiness workshop and career expo were held in Franklin County.  Smith said her office received a lot of positive feedback from those two events.

“Just a couple of days after the Expo in Franklin County, I was at the Career Center in Toccoa and I met a man who went to the Job Readiness seminar and he said it absolutely changed his life. He was in the Career Center working on his resume that day,” she said.

Smith said you don’t have to live in Hart County to attend either the Job Readiness workshops next week or the career expo next month.

The career expo will be held Monday, Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cateechee Golf Club in Hart County.  For more information about  either event, email [email protected].
