Franklin Springs Hires New Police Officer

Franklin Springs has a new police officer.

Franklin Springs Police Chief Daniel Ankerich told the City Council Tuesday he has hired Jerry Tollison as new part-time officer.

“He lives in Royston and is close by,” Ankerich said. “He was looking for something part-time and just stay. So, if you see somebody different, that’s who it is.”

Tollison is a full-time officer with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office and will fit well into the Franklin Springs department as a part-timer.

Ankerich said Tollison was sworn in early January and is already on the job.

In other business, Ankerich was asked about an increase to the town’s animal control budget, but Mayor Lee Moore said the increase was the result of paying back fees.

Remember when they came to us last year at a city council meeting and said we had to pay all those years back?” Moore said. “That’s what that is. No, it’s not that we had taken in that many more animals.”

The $3,000 was paid to the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter for animal intake services for the past several years.
