Franklin County Schools Enrollment Numbers at Start of New School Year

The Franklin County Schools enrollment numbers are in for the start of the new school year.

At their Thursday, August 11 meeting, the Franklin County Board of Education heard from Melanie Burton-Brown, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning regarding how many students are enrolled in each school.

Burton-Brown had given a preliminary report earlier in the month at called BOE meeting on August 4, just before school started.

At last week’s meeting, she showed the Board a chart listing the number of students enrolled in each school.

The biggest increase in student enrollment as of the August 11 was at Carnesville Elementary School.

At the start of the school year, Carnesville Elementary had 672 K-5 students enrolled. That number is up from 662 reported at the called meeting on August 4.

As of 8/11 Lavonia Elementary had 557 down from 563 on 8/04.

Royston Elementary had 515 as of 8/11, down from 517.

Franklin County Middle School had 850 students enrolled as of 8/11 and Franklin County High School had 1,089.

Both schools are down one student from the 8/04 report.

At the called meeting on August 4, Burton-Brown said student enrollment is checked every 10 days.

“We do 10-day counts. So after 10 days, students who have not shown up at all, we know they’ve enrolled somewhere, or are working, or we try to track them down. Those are “no show’s” and then we have true numbers,” she explained.

Also counted are the special ed students and the 9th District Pre-k students.

As of August 11, Burton-Brown said Franklin County had 17 special ed students and 22 9th District Pre-K students.
