Franklin County Schools Allow Early Dismissal on Day of Partial Eclipse

In 13 days, on April 8, the U.S. will experience another solar eclipse.

In Georgia, people will see only a partial eclipse.

Some school districts in Georgia will close early to allow students the opportunity to observe the event with family.

This week,  the Franklin County School System announced it will allow parents to check their students out from class early at 1:30p on April 8 so they can watch the eclipse together at home.

However, teacher preparations for dismissal will take place at the normal time that day, at 2:30p, with dismissal at 3:06p, at the height of the eclipse in Northeast Georgia, and all after-school athletic and other events will go on as usual.

Parents who wish to pick up their students early must do so between 1:30p and 2:30p on April 8.

The total eclipse will pass through the middle of the country beginning in Texas and moving up through Canada by evening.

According to TimeandDate.com, the partial eclipse in our area will begin at 1:48 pm with a maximum darkness of 81% at 3:06p and will end at 4:22p.

Even though this is a partial eclipse in our area, in order to view it you must wear special glasses that can be purchased online at sites like eclipse2024.org, Walmart, or Amazon.
