Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, community organizer for Franklin County Cameron Lopez said events will run from 6p to midnight tonight.

“The survivor lap will kick off at 7p,” Lopez said. “After that, there will be lots of entertainment, including musical groups and other entertainment. Teams will also be there selling food and having silent auctions.”

There will also be bounce houses and games for kids.

Then at 7p will be the opening ceremony which will include a special survivors and Caregivers lap at 7:00pm.

Lopez said the sun goes down the Luminaria Ceremony to honor cancer survivors and remember those lost to cancer will take place.

“It’s a really special ceremony where we light candles inside of bags and those bags have our loved ones’ names on them,” she said. “It’s just very moving time.”

This year, the goal for Franklin County is $50,000, higher than in year’s past.

According to the Franklin County Relay for Life Web page, 11 teams have raised just over $19,500 so far.

Tonight, teams will also have lots of items for sale to help reach this year’s goal.

Lopez says everyone is invited to come out tonight to be a part of Relay for Life.

“It is open to the public,” she said. “It’s not just for kids or just for adults. It’s a family event and open to everybody.”

Again, tonight’s Relay for Life takes place from 6p to midnight at the ball fields at Franklin County Middle School in Carnesville.
